Six Suspended Zamfara Lawmakers Defect from PDP to APC

Six members of the Zamfara State House of Assembly, previously aligned with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), have formally defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), marking a significant shift amid ongoing legislative crises in the state.

The lawmakers announced their defection on Wednesday, citing alleged disregard for the nation's constitution by the state legislature, poor management of legislative duties, and the assembly's role as a "rubber stamp" for Governor Dauda Lawal.

The group, which has been illegally suspended for nearly two years and has operated a parallel House of Assembly challenging the recognized faction, submitted separate defection letters to their factional Speaker, Honourable Bashar Aliyu Gummi.

The defecting lawmakers are:

Hon. Muktar Nasir Kaura (Kaura North)

Hon. Nasiru Abdullahi Maru (Maru North)

Hon. Amiru Ahmad Keta (Tsafe West)

Hon. Bashar Aliyu Gummi (Gummi 1 Constituency)

Barr. Bashir Abubakar Masama (Bukkuyum North)

Hon. Bashir Bello (Bungudu West)

They expressed attraction to the APC's principles of justice, fair play, harmony, and inclusiveness, aiming to better serve their constituents and contribute to the state's development.

The lawmakers also called on the National Assembly to investigate their prolonged suspension and ensure adherence to the rule of law in the state legislature.
