Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, senator representing Kogi central, on Tuesday distributed more than 2,000 bags of 25-kilogramme rice to constituents across the district’s five LGAs.
The Christmas palliative distribution took place
simultaneously in Adavi, Ajaokuta, Okene, Okehi and Ogori-Magongo local
government areas.
Akpoti-Uduaghan said the outreach is aimed at cushioning the
impact of rising food prices and enabling families to celebrate the festive
season with dignity.
“Christmas is a season of love, sacrifice, and shared joy,”
she said.
“At a time when many households are struggling with the cost
of living, it is important that we stand with our people in practical ways.”
She said the rice distribution was designed to ensure
families across Kogi central could celebrate without hardship.
The distribution covered women associations, youth groups,
religious bodies, the elderly and other vulnerable residents across the
senatorial district.
Opeyemi Bamidele, senate leader and senator representing
Ekiti central, donated N50 million in cash to residents across the 177 wards in
the 16 local government areas of Ekiti state.
Bamidele also distributed 8,730 bags of rice and beans
across the 177 wards in the state.
The lawmaker disclosed this in a statement signed by Gbenga
Banji, his senior legislative assistant.
He said the distribution commenced on Monday and was
strictly supervised to prevent diversion.
Bamidele said each ward received N250,000, while each local
government area received N200,000.
He added that 5,380 bags of rice, 3,350 bags of beans, 5,000
bags of salt and 50,000 two-kilogramme packs of garri were distributed without
regard to political affiliation.
“Let me congratulate the residents of Ekiti state on the
occasion of Christmas and New Year’s festivities,” he said.
“As they celebrate, let them do everything with moderation
and remain vigilant because of the pervasive insecurity in the land.”
In a similar gesture, Solomon Adeola, senator representing
Ogun west, said thousands of 50-kilogramme bags of rice were being distributed
to constituents in his senatorial district and beyond.
Adeola said the yuletide distribution also included cows,
hampers and other items required for the festive season.
“Sharing goods needed for festivities is a tradition and
part of my effective representation,” he said.
“This Christmas and New Year festivities will not be an
exception.”
