Senator Francis Fadahunsi (APC, Osun East) has called on President Bola Tinubu to overhaul Nigeria's security architecture by appointing a retired military officer as National Security Adviser (NSA), replacing the current holder, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu.
In a statement issued by his media adviser, Sam Segun-Progress, on Tuesday, Fadahunsi praised the recent nomination of Gen. Christopher Musa (retd.) as Minister of Defence but argued for further changes to enhance efficiency.
He criticized the current setup, noting that key defence roles are held by non-military figures, including businessmen and a retired policeman as NSA, leading to disdain from troops who view civilians as "bloody civilians" and refuse orders from non-generals.
"This results in wasted resources and poor coordination against bandits and violent criminals," Fadahunsi said, suggesting Ribadu be redeployed to a role better suited to his expertise in policing and anti-corruption.
The senator emphasized that military leadership in security would better align with Tinubu's vision for national stability.
