The Nigerian Senate has confirmed the appointments of two commissioners to the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), following nominations by President Bola Tinubu.
The confirmed nominees are Mrs. Aisha Mahmud Kanti Bello, who has been reappointed, and Dr. Animashaun Fouad Olayinka (also referred to as Fouad Animashaun), a new appointee.
The confirmation was based on the recommendations of the Senate Committee on Power and came during a plenary session on Tuesday.
This development follows President Tinubu's request to the Senate earlier in December 2025, which superseded a previous nomination letter from August.
The appointments aim to fill vacancies and strengthen the commission's leadership amid ongoing reforms in Nigeria's electricity sector under the Electricity Act 2023.
NERC plays a critical role in regulating the power industry, including tariff setting, licensing, and overseeing market transitions to improve electricity supply and consumer protection.
