Senator AbdulFatai Buhari, the three-term senator representing Oyo North Senatorial District and Chairman of the Senate Committee on Land Transport, has formally declared his intention to contest the 2027 Oyo State governorship election under the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking at an event in Ibadan on Saturday, the lawmaker announced that he would not seek re-election to the Senate in 2027, opting instead to pursue his long-held ambition to lead the state.
“My interest is now in the governorship of Oyo State. I am not desperate for it; I leave everything to God. Whatever He decides is what will happen,” Senator Buhari said.
Urging residents to look beyond zoning and sectional considerations, he called for support based on track records and capability.
“I appeal to the good people of Oyo State to focus on competence, experience, proven performance, and the capacity to deliver rather than where the candidate comes from,” he added.
Senator Buhari emphasized his readiness to take the state to “greater heights” if given the opportunity, stressing that his decision is divinely inspired and not driven by personal ambition.
