In a series of decisive joint operations between December 5 and 6, troops from the Nigerian Army, Police Anti-Kidnapping Unit, and Department of State Services (DSS) dismantled multiple kidnapper camps around the Federal Capital Territory and rescued six abducted victims.
The intense 48-hour operation was triggered after heavily armed bandits struck twice in the early hours of December 6:At approximately 11:30 p.m., gunmen stormed Zone D, Ushafa (behind LEA Primary School), abducting Mrs. Patience Uzor (49) and her son, Friend Obinna John (27).
Rapid response teams intercepted the kidnappers, rescuing Mrs. Uzor while the gunmen escaped into the bush with Obinna.
Barely two hours later, around 1:30 a.m., the same gang raided a Fulani settlement on the outskirts of Zuma I and Zuma II villages, kidnapping four residents: Abubakar Ibro Jibrin, Lukman Ali Jibrin, Ibrahim Jibrin Sale, and Abdussalam Idris.
Acting on real-time intelligence, combined security forces tracked the criminals across rugged terrain from Mpape Daji Forest (Kagarko LGA) to Kweri Forest in Bwari Area Council.
In two separate firefights behind Mpape hills and inside Kweri Forest, operatives overpowered the bandits, rescuing Abubakar Jibrin during the first clash and freeing Lukman Ali Jibrin, Ibrahim Jibrin Sale, and Abdussalam Idris in the second engagement.
The kidnappers fled with suspected gunshot wounds.Security forces subsequently razed the bandits’ camps, recovering the entire area and preventing any regrouping.
No casualties were recorded on the government side. All six rescued victims were taken to Bwari General Hospital for medical checks before being reunited with their families.
The FCT Police Command has appealed to residents to immediately report anyone seen with fresh gunshot wounds and has deployed additional personnel along vulnerable corridors to forestall further attacks.
Authorities vowed to sustain aggressive operations until the remaining hostage, Friend Obinna John, is rescued and the criminal network completely dismantled.
