Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has personally honoured officers of the Commissioner of Police's Special Squad 1 for their exceptional bravery in foiling a major kidnapping plot and neutralising a dangerous gang that sought to establish Lagos as their operational base.
The gallant officers were recognised with Awards of Gallantry during the 19th Annual Town Hall Meeting on Security, organised by the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF) at Eko Hotels and Suites in Victoria Island.
The team successfully confronted and neutralised nine members of a notorious kidnap syndicate in a fierce gun battle at Ladipo on July 4, 2024.
The operation led to the recovery of five AK-47 rifles and two SUV vehicles used by the gang, preventing them from targeting high-net-worth individuals in areas like Ajao, Okota, Isolo, and Ladipo.
Governor Sanwo-Olu praised the officers for their courage and dedication, noting that their actions significantly enhanced public safety in the state.
"Your valour has sent a strong message that Lagos will never be a safe haven for criminals," he said.
In response, representatives of the Lagos State Police Command expressed profound gratitude to the Lagos State Government (LASG) and the LSSTF for providing critical equipment, vehicles, and logistical support that enabled such successful operations.
