Bandits K!ll Former Zamfara LG Vice Chairman After Collecting ₦15 Million Ransom

Suspected armed bandits have murdered Hon. Mu’azu Muhammad Gwashi, a former vice chairman of Bukkuyum Local Government Area in Zamfara State, northwest Nigeria, despite his family paying a ₦15 million ransom.

Gwashi was abducted approximately five to six months ago and remained in captivity until last weekend when he was killed. A family member, Muhammad Lawal Gwashi, confirmed the incident, stating that the kidnappers initially demanded ₦30 million, which the family struggled to raise, extending the victim's ordeal.

The ransom was later negotiated down to ₦15 million. The bandits reportedly brought Gwashi to collect the payment but refused to release him, insisting on the remaining balance before seizing him again and ultimately killing him.

The brutal killing has sparked widespread fear in the Gwashi community and surrounding areas, prompting many residents to flee their homes for safer locations amid ongoing banditry in the region.

Zamfara State continues to grapple with rampant kidnappings and attacks by armed groups, highlighting persistent security challenges in Nigeria's northwest.
