Poverty, Exclusion Driving North-West Insecurity - Uba Sani

Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani has identified poverty, social exclusion, misinformation, and weakened social cohesion as the primary factors fueling persistent insecurity in Nigeria's North-West region.

Speaking on Wednesday at the North-West Zonal Peace and Security Summit in Kaduna, Governor Sani advocated for integrated security operations combined with comprehensive governance reforms to tackle the root causes of banditry, kidnapping, and communal violence plaguing the zone.

The summit, themed Towards Enduring Peace and Harmony in the North-West Zone, was organised by the Cheren Peace Foundation in partnership with the North-West Governors Forum, bringing together stakeholders to deliberate on sustainable solutions.

Governor Sani emphasised the need for a multi-pronged approach that goes beyond military action, highlighting investments in education, economic empowerment, inclusive governance, and community engagement to address underlying grievances.

The North-West region, comprising states like Kaduna, Katsina, Zamfara, and Sokoto, has grappled with escalating bandit attacks, leading to loss of lives, displacements, and economic disruption.

Participants at the summit called for enhanced regional cooperation among governors, security agencies, and civil society to foster lasting peace and development in the zone.
