This was disclosed by the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, in a statement on Wednesday.

Edafe said the operation resulted in the arrest of one Moses Tejiri, aged 24, a native and resident of the area, while other members of the gang fled the scene by scaling surrounding fences.

The PPRO disclosed that a search conducted on the suspect led to the recovery of one long-barreled gun, 10 rounds of live cartridges, two locally fabricated Beretta pistols, and 11 rounds of live ammunition.

During preliminary investigation, the suspect made useful confessional statements, admitting involvement in a series of armed robbery incidents around Ekredjebor, Olu Avenue, Winners Road, and other locations within Ughelli metropolis.

In another development, following an intensified surveillance conducted by the State Intelligence Department on December 29, 2025, concerning the indiscriminate display and sale of prohibited drugs in a hotel located at Victoria junction, Okpanam road, one Isu Emmanuel, claiming to be a nurse at Guard Health Pharmacy Okpanam, was arrested.

Emmanuel was said to be reputed for the sales and distribution of controlled drugs without doctors’ prescriptions to members of the public.

During the operation, 28 sachets of tramadol, 100mm 16 sachets of Swindol, three bottles of Barcadine containing codeine syrup and other prohibited and controlled drugs were recovered.

The PPRO stated that the suspect is currently in custody, just as the investigation is ongoing.

Meanwhile, the command has reassured residents that “intelligence-driven patrols, targeted raids, and proactive crime-prevention strategies remain firmly in place to deny criminal elements any haven within the state.”

Members of the public were also encouraged to continue supporting the police with timely and credible information in the collective effort to keep Delta State safe.
