The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Friday inaugurated a caretaker committee to manage the party's affairs in Oyo State, following the dissolution of the previous state executive by the national leadership.
The inauguration ceremony took place in Ibadan, the state capital, signaling a new chapter in the party's reorganization efforts in the state.
The committee was approved by the PDP National Working Committee (NWC), with Prof. Abdulrahman Akinoso appointed as chairman and Dr. Biola Olanipekun as secretary.
A statement from National Organising Secretary Umar Bature confirmed the appointments.
The caretaker committee's mandate commenced on December 24, 2025, and is set to last no more than 30 days, in compliance with Section 21(2)(a–b) of the PDP constitution.
Speaking after the inauguration, Chairman Akinoso committed to operating with transparency, inclusiveness, and full adherence to the party's constitution.
He hailed the event as a significant milestone for the PDP in Oyo State, emphasizing the committee's role in stabilizing the party and strengthening its structures at the ward, local government, and state levels.
Akinoso outlined the committee's focus on promoting internal democracy through transparent membership drives, credible delegate elections, and equitable representation.
Implementation of these activities is scheduled to begin on January 9, 2026, following NWC directives under acting leadership.
Drawing on his extensive experience as a former youth leader, trade unionist, public servant, and party organizer, Akinoso assured members of broad stakeholder consultation, including leaders, women, and youths.
He stressed the importance of resolving grievances to build unity ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He also reiterated the validity of the November 18, 2025, National Executive Committee decision to dissolve the prior state executive, calling on its members to surrender all party property to the new committee's secretary.
Prof. Adenike Ogunshe, the party's Caretaker Committee National Women Leader, expressed confidence that the PDP would regain strength, describing the committee's formation as vital for revitalizing the party in Oyo State.
