If you have any need to move around in Lagos on Saturday, it’s time to plan your trip as the state government has announced closure of major roads for the Eyo festival.
The Lagos State Government announced the closure of the
roads for the Eyo Festival, which is expected to draw major local and
international attention on Saturday.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, his wife, Lagos governor,
Babajide Sanwo-Olu and other top government officials are expected to witness
the festival scheduled to hold at Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos.
In its statement on Friday, the Lagos State Govt said there
will be temporary traffic diversions on Saturday for the Eyo Festival.
According to the statement, partial restrictions will
affect the Third Mainland Bridge and major Lagos Island roads.
Specifically, the state government listed the routes that
will be affected to include Third Mainland Bridge exit → Adeniji Adele, Adeniji
Adele ramps (in & out), Simpson Bridge (Osborne ↔ Sura), as well as
Obalende, CMS, Marina, Apogbon and Idumota.
“Motorists are advised to plan ahead and use alternative
routes. LASTMA officials will be on ground,” the state government said.
Eyo Festival is held in Lagos Island to honour departed
traditional rulers, chiefs and notable personalities.
Those to be honoured at Saturday’s edition include: the late
Iyaloja-General, Chief Abibat Mogaji, mother of President Bola Tinubu; and the
first military governor of Lagos State, Gen. Mobolaji Johnson.
Others are: the first civilian governor of the state, Alhaja
Lateef Jakande, and a former Third Republic governor, Sir Michael Otedola.
Sanwo-Olu said the Eyo Festival was a powerful expression
of our identity and continuity as a people.
Sanwo-Olu described tomorrow’s Eyo outing as a moment of
pride for the state.
“The Eyo Festival holding on Saturday, will be a day of joy
and pride for Lagos.
“It will be colourful and joyous, showcasing the depth of
our rich cultural heritage to both local and international audiences,” he said.
