Senator Adams Oshiomhole, former Edo State governor, has expressed strong approval of the recent resignation of Engr. Farouk Ahmed as Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA).
During a Senate screening session for Ahmed's successor on December 18, 2025, Oshiomhole stated that he celebrated Ahmed's exit the previous night, describing the former regulator's policies as detrimental to local job creation and favoring importation over domestic refining.
"Your predecessor that was removed and I celebrated it last night, he needed to be dealt with," Oshiomhole remarked, emphasizing that prioritizing imports undermined Nigeria's economic interests and employment opportunities.
He further warned the new nominee to avoid repeating what he called the "shameful performance and policy" of the previous leadership, stressing the importance of supporting local industries like the Dangote Refinery for national development.
Ahmed's resignation came amid intense controversy, including corruption allegations leveled by billionaire Aliko Dangote, who accused the former CEO of financial impropriety and frustrating domestic refining efforts.
President Bola Tinubu subsequently nominated Saidu Aliyu Mohammed as Ahmed's replacement, pending Senate confirmation. Oshiomhole's comments have sparked widespread discussion on social media and in political circles.
