Troops from the Joint Task Force North East under Operation Hadin Kai thwarted a multi-pronged attack by Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists on a military base in Borno State.Security sources revealed to Zagazola Makama that the incident unfolded around 7:57 p.m. on Thursday, when three enemy drones were spotted circling over Battalion Headquarters "Alfa," apparently conducting reconnaissance.
As soldiers maneuvered to counter the unmanned aerial threats, the attackers fired two mortar rounds at the position, followed by a barrage of small arms gunfire. The troops mounted a robust defense with overwhelming firepower, compelling the terrorists to flee in chaos toward the Mangari area, according to the sources.
The Nigerian Air Force delivered timely close air support, bolstering the ground forces and ensuring the complete repulsion of the assault.Remarkably, no soldiers were injured, and no military assets were lost in the clash.
In the aftermath, forces swept the surrounding area and seized abandoned terrorist materiel, including six rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) bombs and charges, 366 rounds of 7.62mm x 51mm ammunition, and a significant number of spent PKT belt links.Operation Hadin Kai remains committed to proactive operations throughout the Northeast, aimed at restricting terrorist movements and dismantling their combat effectiveness.
