Operatives of the Kwara State Police Command have intercepted six locally fabricated AK-47 rifles and arrested four men during a stop-and-search operation along Sabongida Road.Police sources confirmed that at about 8:45 a.m. on Wednesday, officers from Jebba Division flagged down a vehicle and discovered the weapons hidden in a bag.
The two occupants, Musa Mohammed and Musa Abdullahi, both from Saorami in Mashegu Local Government Area of Niger State were immediately arrested.
Also recovered were one pump-action rifle, four live cartridges, and one expended AK-47 round.Upon interrogation, the suspects confessed they were transporting the firearms for delivery to two accomplices in Shonga, Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State.
Acting on the disclosure, police swiftly arrested the intended recipients, Mohammad Umoru and Magin Isah.All four suspects have been transferred to Intelligence Response Team (IRT) operatives on special assignment in Kwara for discreet investigation and possible prosecution.
The Kwara Police Command commended the Jebba officers for their vigilance and reiterated its commitment to ridding the state of illegal firearms and criminal elements.
