Operatives of the Benue State Police Command have successfully foiled an armed bandit attack along Adoka Road, engaging the assailants in a fierce gun duel and rescuing all passengers who had been forced to stop by the gunmen.
The incident occurred around 12:30 a.m. on Wednesday when bandits waylaid several vehicles travelling along the route.
Acting on swift intelligence, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in the area immediately mobilised patrol teams and tactical units. On reaching the scene, the officers confronted the bandits in heavy gunfire, forcing the criminals to abandon their victims and flee into surrounding bushes.
All stranded passengers were rescued and taken to the police station for safety. Those who sustained injuries during the attack were rushed to St. Charles Hospital, Adoka, where they are receiving treatment.
Police sources confirmed that joint combing operations are ongoing in nearby bushes to track down and arrest the fleeing bandits, while the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) has launched a full investigation.
The Benue Police Command reassured residents and road users of heightened patrols along major highways and urged motorists and the public to promptly report any suspicious movement or activity promptly to the nearest security formation.
