The Governing Council of Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, has taken stringent disciplinary actions against erring staff while approving massive promotions, underscoring its commitment to upholding institutional integrity and rewarding excellence.
In decisions reached at its 72nd Regular Meeting on December 19, 2025, chaired by Barrister Sani Shaibu, the council terminated the appointment of Mr. Mukhtar Muhammed, an Administrative Officer II, for sexual molestation.
Additionally, Mr. Audu Mathew, a Deputy Registrar, was demoted to Principal Assistant Registrar due to negligence of duty.
Mrs. Funmilayo Afolabi, an Assistant Chief Executive Officer, also had her appointment terminated for absconding from duty for nine months.
These measures, according to a statement by the Director of Public Relations and Protocol, Uredo Omale, are aimed at enforcing the institution's strict disciplinary standards.
On a positive note, the council approved the promotion of 11 Principal Lecturers to the rank of Chief Lecturers. The promoted individuals include:
Mr. Ehimony James Baba Tunde and Mrs. Ajayi Omolola Felicia (School of Applied Sciences);
Engr. Anikoh Godwin Ateiza (School of Engineering Technology);
Dr. Acharu Faith Tony-Okeme and Dr. Raji Abdulwasiu Adeyemi (School of Management Studies);
Mrs. Akinola Hope Ojochide, Mrs. Olayiwola Grace Eleojo, and Mr. Aminu Fasasi Olanrewaju (School of General and Communication Studies);
Mr. Boluromi Samuel Sunday and Mr. Salawu Abdulazeez (School of Preliminary Studies);
Arc. Dr. Thompson Ochedi Ekele (School of Environmental Technology).
Furthermore, 49 academic and 71 non-teaching staff were promoted in the 2024 exercise, while 225 academic and 227 non-teaching staff advanced in the 2025 cycle.
Rector Professor Salisu Ogbo Usman thanked the council for its dedication and praised Governor Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo for fostering academic stability, infrastructure development, and overall progress.
He highlighted recent achievements, including timely result releases, improved campus security, payment of earned allowances, a new borehole for water supply, and the busting of a result forgery syndicate involving Mr. Henry Tope, who was caught with 30 forged statements of result and one certificate.
Prof. Usman also noted the appointment of Mrs. Glory Ojochogwu Yakubu as substantive Registrar of Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH), Osara.
Council Chairman Barrister Sani Shaibu commended the management for promoting discipline and transparency, pledging continued support to position the polytechnic as a centre of excellence while urging staff to adhere to professional ethics.
