The Kebbi State Police Command has dismissed circulating rumors of a bomb attack or helicopter involvement in an explosion at the General Hospital in Bagudo, revealing that the blast was caused by overheating in air-conditioning and refrigerator gas cylinders.
The incident, which occurred on December 30, 2025, sparked initial panic among residents but resulted in no casualties or injuries, according to authorities.
A thorough investigation involving Kebbi State Police personnel, Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) and Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) experts, as well as the Commissioner of Police's Tactical Team, determined the explosion stemmed from an inferno triggered by overheated gas cylinders in appliances.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman Anisma, called on the public and media outlets to ignore unverified social media reports alleging terrorism or aerial attacks, emphasizing the need to await official statements.
"The Kebbi State Police Command assures the public that the situation is fully under control, and all necessary steps have been taken to prevent future occurrences," Anisma stated.
Security teams swiftly secured the hospital premises following the blast, allowing experts to conduct a safe assessment.
The command has reinforced measures to maintain calm in the area.
