Jigawa State Governor, Umar Namadi, has signed the N901.841bn budget for 2026 into law, with the approved budget documents handed over to him on Wednesday by the Speaker of the Jigawa State House of Assembly, Haruna Aliyu Dangyatim.
The budget, dubbed “Budget of Innovation and Transformation for Greater Jigawa II”, was unanimously passed by the Assembly on Tuesday during its plenary session.
Speaking after assenting to the bill amid a large gathering at the Council Chamber, Jigawa State Government House, Dutse, on Wednesday, Governor Namadi described it as a “citizen budget”. “This budget reflects the yearnings and aspirations of Jigawa State citizens,” he said.
According to Namadi, the budget allocation is strategic. “With N693.4 billion for capital projects, we’ll drive infrastructure growth and improve lives,” he stated.
Namadi noted that the budget allocates N75bn for agriculture, including food and livestock production. “This boosts food security and commercial farming,” he emphasised.
Explaining further, the governor stated that the recurrent expenditure of the budget is N208.4 billion, saying, “This allocation will support effective governance and ensure smooth delivery of public services.”
Furthermore, Namadi highlighted that education and health sectors combined receive over N310 billion, adding that “we’re prioritising these sectors as they’re crucial to Jigawa’s human capital development and overall growth.”
“This budget will spur growth and improve living standards,” Namadi assured.
He, however, noted that infrastructure like roads and energy gets significant funding, adding that the budget’s 19.2% increase from 2025 shows a commitment to progress.
“This improves economic prospects and underscores our resolve to move Jigawa forward,” he said.
In brief remarks, shortly after submitting the approved budget to the governor, Speaker, Jigawa State House of Assembly, Haruna Aliyu Dangyatim, who led a delegation of the principal officers, said the Assembly worked swiftly to pass it. “We prioritised development and people’s needs.
Dangyatim highlighted the budget’s focus on education. “Over 26% goes to education – a sector key to Jigawa’s future,” he said.
Dangyatim said the Assembly ensured swift passage. “We worked together for Jigawa’s development,” he added.
He also assured the Assembly’s oversight role, stating that “We’ll monitor project implementation closely.”
