Invictus Obi Released from US Prison After Serving Time for $11 Million Fraud

Obinwanne Okeke, the Nigerian entrepreneur popularly known as Invictus Obi, has been released from United States federal prison after serving part of his 10-year sentence for an $11 million internet fraud scheme.

Checks on the US Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) website confirm that Okeke was no longer listed in custody as of Wednesday, December 24, 2025.

Okeke, now 38, was arrested by FBI agents in August 2019 and sentenced in February 2021 for conspiracy to commit wire fraud and computer intrusions.

The scheme, which ran from 2015 to 2019, involved business email compromises that defrauded victims of approximately $11 million.

Once celebrated as a rising star featured on Forbes Africa's 30 Under 30 list in 2016 as the founder of the Invictus Group, Okeke's early release is attributed to good conduct credits and provisions under the First Step Act, a US prison reform law.

Reports indicate that deportation proceedings to Nigeria are underway following his release, in line with the terms of his conviction as a non-US citizen.

The development marks the end of Okeke's incarceration, which began after his high-profile fall from grace as a perceived model of African entrepreneurship.
