Gunmen have abducted Maruf Musa, a former member of the Ogun state house of assembly.
Musa, who represented Ogun Waterside constituency during the
sixth assembly (2007-2011), was reportedly kidnapped on Tuesday night in
Ibiade, Ogun Waterside LGA of the state.
The assailants were said to have fired shots to disperse
residents before abducting the former legislator during prayers at a mosque in
his compound.
Babaseyi Boluwatife, police spokesperson in Ogun, confirmed
the abduction to TheCable on Wednesday evening.
Boluwatife said security operatives have deployed to rescue
the victim.
“Security measures have been activated, including the
deployment of the anti-kidnapping unit, and the public is advised to remain
calm pending official updates,” he said.
Last month, Ogun state police command arrested a notorious
syndicate of Cameroonian nationals involved in kidnapping on the pretext of
visa processing.
