Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has expressed profound shock and sorrow over the unexpected deaths of two serving members of the Kano State House of Assembly, Hon. Aminu Sa’adu and Hon. Sarki Aliyu Daneji, who passed away within hours of each other on Wednesday, December 24, 2025.
In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, on Thursday, the governor described the near-simultaneous losses as a "dark and heartbreaking moment" in the state's history, plunging the government and residents into collective grief.
"The loss of these two vibrant lawmakers in such quick succession is a tragedy beyond words," Governor Yusuf said, highlighting the immense contributions of the deceased to the legislature and their constituencies.
Hon. Aminu Sa’adu, who represented Ungoggo Local Government Area and served as Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriations, reportedly died following a brief illness.
Shortly afterward, Hon. Sarki Aliyu Daneji, representing Kano Municipal Local Government Area and Chairman of the House Committee on Pilgrims a close ally of the governor also passed away, with some reports suggesting he collapsed upon hearing news of his colleague's death.
The governor extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, the leadership and members of the Kano State House of Assembly, and the people of Ungoggo and Kano Municipal Local Government Areas.
He prayed for Allah to forgive the shortcomings of the departed, grant them eternal peace in Aljannatul Firdaus, and provide strength to their loved ones and the entire state to bear this irreparable loss.Governor Yusuf urged residents to remain calm, united, and steadfast in faith, viewing the tragedy as a divine test of resilience.
Funeral arrangements included the burial of Hon. Sa’adu at Ungoggo Cemetery, while prayers for Hon.
Daneji were scheduled for 10 a.m. on Thursday at the Emir’s Palace Mosque in Kano.
The double tragedy has sent shockwaves through Kano's political circles, with tributes pouring in for the dedicated lawmakers from the ruling New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
