Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has brought cheer to civil servants and pensioners across the state by approving a ₦100,000 Christmas bonus for each worker on the state payroll.
The gesture, described by government sources as a token of appreciation for the dedication and resilience of public servants amid challenging economic times, extends to all grades of civil servants, local government employees, and pensioners in the state.
In a statement released by the governor's office on Monday, Governor Fubara emphasized his administration's commitment to worker welfare.
"Our workers are the backbone of governance and service delivery. This bonus is a small way of saying thank you for their sacrifices and to help cushion the effects of the festive season," the statement read.
The payment is expected to be processed immediately, with many workers already confirming receipt of alerts in their accounts as of Monday afternoon.
This marks the third consecutive year that Governor Fubara has approved a Christmas bonus since assuming office, having previously disbursed similar amounts in 2023 and 2024.
The initiative has been widely praised by labour unions in the state, who described it as a morale booster for public servants.
The bonus comes at a time when the Fubara administration continues to prioritize prompt salary payments, promotions, and improved working conditions despite ongoing political and fiscal challenges in the oil-rich state.
Workers have taken to social media to express gratitude, with many hailing the governor for the timely "Christmas surprise" that has brought relief to families during the holiday season.
