Sokoto State Governor Ahmad Aliyu has announced fresh security initiatives aimed at decisively ending the menace of banditry, with a strong emphasis on bolstering intelligence gathering and enhancing coordination among security agencies.
The governor made the disclosure on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, while presiding over the 17th regular meeting of the State Executive Council the final session for the year in Sokoto.
Describing banditry as a persistent rural scourge marked by violent attacks, mass displacements, livestock rustling, kidnappings for ransom, and severe disruptions to socio-economic activities, Aliyu stressed that the new measures would build on existing efforts that are already showing promising results.
"Intelligence remains a critical factor in checkmating criminal elements, and we are confident that these new initiatives will further enhance our capacity to tackle banditry decisively," he stated.
Since taking office, the administration has prioritised support for security operations across the 13 most affected local government areas, providing logistics and operational resources to federal and state agencies.
Aliyu appealed to residents for continued collaboration, urging them to provide timely and credible information to authorities. "As a government, we are ready to do all it takes to ensure that banditry becomes history in Sokoto State, but we cannot do it alone," he emphasised, calling for collective effort from all stakeholders.
The governor also commended the State Executive Council for their dedication, crediting teamwork for the administration's achievements in 2025, and congratulated newly appointed officials, including the Head of Civil Service, Abdulkadir Ahmed Mohamed.
With these reinforced strategies, the Sokoto government reiterated its unwavering commitment to restoring lasting peace and security across the state.
