Kogi State Governor Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo has stated that his recent executive proclamation on security measures is not a declaration of a state of emergency, but rather targeted actions to bolster the state's security framework and combat criminal activities.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media, Hon. Ismaila Isah, the governor emphasized that the proclamation is a constitutional step to enhance coordination among security agencies and protect lives and property, without suspending any rights.
Invoking his role as Chief Security Officer under Section 14(2)(b) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), Governor Ododo outlined measures including verification of security personnel, mandatory ID checks, and prosecution of those aiding bandits or terrorists.
The proclamation also addresses fake security operatives and allows forfeiture of properties used in crimes, supported by the Kogi State Anti-Kidnapping, Robbery and Terrorism Law of 2016.
Individuals or groups supporting criminals will face prosecution as enemies of the state, the governor warned.
He thanked security agencies for their ongoing efforts and reaffirmed his administration's dedication to peace, following the recent recovery of a large weapons cache based on intelligence.
Residents have been reassured of continued commitment to safety across Kogi State.
