President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has assured Nigerians that new security measures, including the imminent arrival of advanced military hardware and the establishment of state and community policing, will soon yield tangible results in the fight against insecurity.
Speaking during a courtesy visit by a delegation of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), led by its President, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, at his Lagos residence on Friday, December 26, 2025, President Tinubu disclosed that four attack helicopters ordered from the United States will arrive in the country soon.
He acknowledged delays in military procurements, noting that such equipment is expensive and not readily available off the shelf, but revealed that Nigeria has also approached Turkey for additional assistance to bridge the gap.
"Military hardware is difficult to replace. It is expensive and not available off the shelf. Our orders for four attack helicopters from the United States of America will take some time to arrive. We have approached Turkey for assistance," the President said.
On police reforms, Tinubu reaffirmed his administration's commitment to decentralised security, stating that community and state policing will become a reality once the National Assembly completes the necessary legislative processes.
The President emphasised that the ongoing recalibration of Nigeria's security architecture is designed to restore public confidence and address persistent threats like banditry, insurgency, and kidnapping.
In response, Archbishop Okoh commended the administration's efforts, noting that the 2025 Christmas season was remarkably peaceful compared to previous years, with fewer reports of attacks on churches.
He assured the President of the Christian community's continued support and prayers.
The meeting underscores the government's determination to equip the armed forces adequately while pursuing structural reforms to enhance grassroots security across the nation.
