FG Vows to Revive Long-Abandoned Federal Government Printing Press Headquarters

The Federal Government has pledged to take decisive action to resuscitate the abandoned headquarters of the Federal Government Printing Press in Asokoro, Abuja, putting an end to years of neglect and significant resource wastage.

During an on-site inspection tour on Thursday, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, described the multi-billion-naira facility's prolonged abandonment as "heart-wrenching" and incompatible with the administration's emphasis on prudence, accountability, and efficient use of public assets under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda.

The minister highlighted that the inactivity has compelled the government to outsource essential printing services, including sensitive documents like the Federal Government Gazette, at great expense.

He pointed out unused infrastructure, such as a 2000 KVA generator installed in 2011 that has never been operational.

"It's billions of Naira wasting here," Idris said. "We cannot continue to close our eyes to this facility wasting further. Something has to be done."

The Federal Government Printing Press is responsible for producing critical official publications for the Ministry of Information and National Orientation.

The minister assured that steps will soon be taken to recover value from the investment and prevent ongoing deterioration.
