COAS Vows No Safe Haven for Terrorists, Charges Troops to Clear Bandit Hideouts

Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, Chief of Army Staff (COAS), has declared that bandits and terrorists will no longer have safe havens in Nigeria's forests, deserts, mountainous regions, or national parks, directing troops to intensify operations and flush out criminal elements from all hideouts.

Speaking during an operational visit to the 2 Division Nigerian Army headquarters in Ibadan on Monday, December 22, 2025, Lt. Gen. Shaibu commended officers and soldiers for recent successes in their area of responsibility while urging them to maintain momentum.

"We must let them know that there is no safe haven anywhere. Come rain, come sun, forested areas, desert areas or mountainous areas, we are going after them," the COAS emphasized.

He highlighted how criminal groups exploit difficult terrains to attack innocent citizens and stressed that such advantages would no longer be tolerated.

The Army Chief specifically directed increased night operations to dominate forested zones and deny bandits freedom of movement.

Shaibu pointed to ongoing security challenges around the Kwara general area, Kainji Lake National Park, and Old Oyo National Park, announcing firm directives to clear the regions.

"Directives are coming up so that you go and clear everything in that place. We are moving with ruthless determination to eliminate all those disturbing that terrain," he stated.

Praising the General Officer Commanding (GOC) and senior officers for their leadership and focus, the COAS urged continued frontline leadership to sustain operational superiority.

He expressed satisfaction with troop morale and anticipated more tangible results from the division in the coming days.

On welfare, Lt. Gen. Shaibu assured soldiers that their well-being remains a priority, with prompt payment of entitlements and addressing logistical needs.

He revealed approval for additional barracks renovations and new accommodation construction to alleviate housing pressures.

"You will be given all you require, and all your entitlements will be paid as and when due," he promised, emphasizing that discipline, motivation, and improved welfare are key to defeating threats across the region.
