Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has condemned the suicide attack at a mosque in Gamboru Market, Maiduguri, which claimed five lives and left 35 others injured.
The attack occurred on Wednesday evening during Maghrib
prayers, when a suspected suicide bomber infiltrated the mosque, according to a
statement by the governor’s special adviser on media, Dauda Iliya.
“I am deeply saddened by the Gamboru mosque suicide attack
which occurred while worshippers were performing Maghrib prayer, killing five
people and injuring 35 others,” Zulum said.
“The act is utterly condemnable, barbaric and inhumane.
Attacking a place of worship desecrates its sanctity and violates the faith of
those performing acts of worship.”
Zulum extended condolences to the families of the victims
and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.
He also called for increased vigilance and heightened
security, particularly in places of worship and other public spaces during the
festive season.
The governor added that the state government, in
collaboration with security agencies, had put in place measures to prevent
further attacks.
