Bauchi PDP pledges unity, rule of law

The Bauchi State Peoples Democratic Party Caretaker Committee has pledged to run the affairs of the party in the state in line with the rule of law, unity, and internal discipline, following its approval by the party’s National Working Committee.

The committee commended the NWC faction led by its Chairman, Abdulrahman Mohammed, for approving its appointment and formally accepted the mandate to oversee the party’s activities in Bauchi State in accordance with the PDP Constitution and directives of the national leadership.

Speaking at a press conference in Abuja on Tuesday, the chairman of the committee, Jungudo Mohammed, praised the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, as well as members of the party’s National Executive Committee and Board of Trustees, for their roles in promoting stability and progress within the party.

Mohammed said the caretaker committee would be guided strictly by democratic principles and respect for the rule of law in carrying out its duties.

“As law-abiding citizens, we will not resort to violence. Our members are products of intellectualism, democracy and respect for the rule of law, not thuggery or hooliganism,” he said.

He stressed that legitimacy within the party could only be achieved through adherence to established laws and the party’s constitution.

“Holding meetings with former governors, ministers or members of the National Assembly does not confer legitimacy. Legitimacy can only be derived from strict compliance with extant laws, adherence to the constitution of the party and obedience to valid court orders,” Mohammed stated.

The caretaker chairman assured party members that the committee would carry out its responsibilities without fear or intimidation, while focusing on restoring unity, discipline and order within the PDP in Bauchi State.

He called on party members to cooperate fully with the caretaker committee in the collective interest of the party and the people of the state.

Mohammed also urged occupants of PDP secretariats across Bauchi State to cooperate with the committee in line with directives from the party’s national leadership.

The committee chairman thanked the people of Bauchi State, especially PDP members, for their support and solidarity, and appealed to members who had left or were considering leaving the party due to grievances to reconsider their decision.

“The caretaker committee remains firmly committed to fairness, equity, inclusiveness, unity and justice within the party,” he said.
