Armed bandits have carried out deadly attacks in Kogi and Zamfara states, killing at least three people and abducting 15 others in recent incidents amid escalating insecurity in Nigeria's north-central and northwest regions.
In Kogi State, suspected bandits launched coordinated attacks on communities in Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area, resulting in the deaths of at least two residents and the abduction of several others.
The assaults targeted villages including Ihalé and Olle, where residents reportedly resisted the invaders, leading to fatalities on both sides.
Local Government Chairman Barrister Zacheus Dare Michael condemned the attacks, expressing sympathy for the victims and pledging intensified collaboration with security agencies to secure the release of those abducted and curb banditry in the area.
Meanwhile, in Zamfara State, bandits struck Fananawa village in Bukuyum Local Government Area on Saturday night, December 20, 2025, killing one person, injuring another, and abducting at least five residents.
A local source reported that the attackers operated from dusk until dawn, while the state police command confirmed five abductions and deployed personnel for rescue operations.
These incidents highlight the persistent threat of banditry, kidnappings for ransom, and communal violence in the affected states, despite ongoing military and police efforts. Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities.
