Suspected armed bandits launched a pre-dawn raid on a Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) checkpoint at Ibrahim Leteh Village along the Wawa–Luma Road, overpowering the outpost and carting away a G3 service rifle.
The attack occurred around 4:30 a.m. on December 22, when a large group of assailants stormed the location, opening heavy fire on the facility.
Two NSCDC personnel on duty took cover to avoid harm, as the bandits riddled their patrol vehicle and mini office with bullets.
The attackers successfully seized one officially assigned G3 rifle before fleeing. No casualties were reported among the officers or civilians.Security operatives later visited the scene for investigation, documentation, and evidence collection.
Efforts are underway to recover the stolen weapon and apprehend the perpetrators, with reinforcements deployed to bolster presence along the vulnerable route.
The Wawa–Luma axis, linking remote communities and bordering Benin Republic, has long been plagued by banditry, with groups reportedly operating from nearby Kainji Lake National Park.
