His Imperial Majesty, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade I, the Alaafin of Oyo, on Saturday installed former Zamfara State Governor and Senator representing Zamfara West, Abdul'aziz Yari, with the esteemed chieftaincy title of Obaloyin of Yorubaland.
During the same colourful ceremony held at the Alaafin's Palace in Oyo town, Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, was installed as the Okanlomo of Yorubaland.
The title "Okanlomo of Yorubaland" signifies "the one dear to the hearts of all Yoruba people" or "beloved child," symbolising deep affection, unity, and cultural significance.
Meanwhile, "Obaloyin of Yorubaland" is a high-ranking Eso-class honour representing love, compassion, justice, and guardianship of the realm.
The event drew prominent Nigerian figures, including dignitaries from across the country, underscoring the titles' recognition of contributions to national unity, cultural preservation, and societal development.
Palace sources confirmed that the installations proceeded as planned, with preparations highlighting the monarch's commitment to honouring individuals who foster bridges across Nigeria's diverse regions.
This ceremony follows recent discussions on Yoruba traditional titles and their pan-regional implications, reinforcing the Alaafin's role in promoting cultural heritage and interpersonal harmony.
