US Congress Vows Action After Kwara Church Massacre

The United States House Committee on Foreign Affairs has strongly condemned the terrorist attack on Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) in Eruku, Kwara State, describing it as a brutal example of the daily reality faced by Nigerian Christians.

In a post on X accompanied by video footage of the attack which occurred during an ongoing church service, the powerful congressional committee declared:“President Trump is right: For far too long, innocent Nigerian Christians have been slaughtered while the world looks away. Just this week, terrorists attacked a church, killing and kidnapping innocent Christians.

"This is the reality they face in the region. These gruesome atrocities must not go unheard.”

The committee announced it will hold a special hearing on Friday to spotlight the escalating violent killings and persecution of Christians in Nigeria.

The sharp reaction comes hours after U.S. Congressman Riley Moore held high-level talks in Washington with a top Nigerian delegation led by National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu and including Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, Attorney-General Lateef Fagbemi, Chief of Defence Staff General Christopher Musa, and other senior officials.

During the closed-door meeting, the Nigerian team outlined the government’s counter-terrorism efforts and challenges in protecting vulnerable communities from Boko Haram, ISWAP, and Fulani militant attacks, particularly in the North-East and Middle Belt.

Congressman Moore issued a blunt message afterward:“I made it crystal clear that the United States must see tangible steps to ensure Christians are not subject to violence, persecution, displacement, and death simply for their faith.

"We stand ready to cooperate with Nigeria to combat terrorism perpetrated by Boko Haram, ISWAP, and Fulani militants. President Trump and Congress are united and serious in our resolve to end the violence against Christians and destroy terrorist groups inside Nigeria.”

The congressional outrage follows President Trump’s recent designation of Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern (CPC) over religious freedom violations, a move that has intensified scrutiny of ongoing attacks on Christian communities.
