The Federal Executive Council has greenlit a proposal for a Presidential Task Force on ‘Detty December,’ aimed at orchestrating Nigeria’s explosive year-end tourism and entertainment surge into a coordinated national powerhouse.
Announcing the move post-Thursday’s Council session at Aso Rock Villa in Abuja, Minister of Art, Culture and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa, highlighted the task force’s role in aligning federal and state resources to elevate Nigeria especially Lagos as a premier global festive hotspot.
Musawa noted that the Council also endorsed flagship national tourism brands like “Naija Season,” crafted by the National Council for Arts and Culture.
These will act as year-round engines to propel tourism and creative sectors in all 36 states.
The task force will rally critical ministries and agencies, covering aviation, interior, and power to deliver robust backing for Lagos, the epicenter of December’s mega-concerts, festivals, and diaspora gatherings.
Musawa emphasized that federal intervention will foster seamless inter-agency synergy, polish Nigeria’s international reputation, and lure private investment into tourism and creativity.
Coined for the whirlwind of concerts, fashion extravaganzas, nightlife, and cultural festivities, ‘Detty December’ has evolved into an economic juggernaut, particularly in Lagos.
The new push is poised to amplify Nigeria’s soft power, skyrocket tourism earnings, and cement its status as Africa’s entertainment vanguard.
