Tinubu Meets Regional Minister, Development Chiefs on Insecurity, Infrastructure

President Bola Tinubu on Monday met with the Minister of Regional Development, Abubakar Momoh, and leaders of seven development commissions at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, directing deeper collaboration with state governments to combat insecurity and rehabilitate critical infrastructure, especially roads across Nigeria’s geo-political zones.

Briefing State House correspondents afterward, Momoh said the commissions are not regional chief executives but are mandated to complement federal and state efforts, particularly in tackling security challenges.

He highlighted ongoing state interventions on federal highways, including repairs on a 10-kilometre stretch of the Benin-Warri Road in Delta State and the Sapele-Ogorode corridor in Edo State, urging nationwide replication.

Momoh blamed prolonged neglect of road maintenance on the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), which he said “was not fully alive to its responsibilities for over eight to 10 years.

”The commissions are implementing a four-phase master plan: security (completed), sustainability (ongoing), infrastructure to boost market access, and community renewal.

On delays in take-off funding for newly established commissions, Momoh said the issue was a key focus of the meeting with the President.
