Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has called on the Federal Government to prioritise recruiting military and police personnel and deploying them to their states of origin.
In a post on his verified X handle on Wednesday, Sani stated
that deploying security personnel to their own states is the best way to fight
terrorism because they know the terrain better than strangers from other
states.
He also called for comprehensive training and provision of
sophisticated equipment to enhance their operations.
His comment is coming against the backdrop of the wave of
security challenges confronting Nigeria, where citizens, including
schoolchildren are being abducted across the country.
“In combatting bandits and terrorists, the recruitment of
military and police personnel should place emphasis on regions with the highest
levels of insecurity.
“They should be recruited, trained, equipped and sent to
their states and regions to fight the criminals.They know their terrain better
than anyone,” he said.
