Drama unfolded on the streets of Abuja on Sunday as Naval Officer Ahmed Yerima, the same officer who recently confronted FCT Minister Nyesom Wike in a viral video, was pulled over by police for driving with a concealed number plate.
Eyewitnesses say officers flagged down Yerima’s vehicle after spotting the covered plate.
When asked to identify himself, the naval officer reportedly said he was military personnel but failed to provide any valid ID.
A viral video now circulating on X shows the tense exchange:Police officer: “Identify yourself, and you cannot. The best thing you could do is to start an insult. Do you now accept that what you did is wrong? You are the one doing wrong things.”
Yerima (dismissively): “No, I didn’t even see you. I didn’t see you.”
The officer maintained that covering a number plate is a clear violation of traffic laws, regardless of status.
The incident has sparked fresh reactions online, with many Nigerians praising the police for enforcing the law without fear or favour, while others see it as another chapter in Yerima’s growing list of public confrontations.
As of press time, neither the Nigerian Navy nor the FCT Police Command has issued an official statement on the incident.
