Vice President Kashim Shettima departed Abuja on Friday to represent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the 2025 G20 Leaders’ Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa.
President Tinubu postponed his own trip to the summit in order to remain in Nigeria and receive further briefings on recent security developments in Kebbi and Kwara States, according to a statement issued by Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications (Office of the Vice President).
The Nigerian leader had been personally invited by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, who is serving as the current G20 President.
The two-day summit, running from Saturday, November 22 to Sunday, November 23 at the Johannesburg Expo Centre, will bring together heads of state and government from the world’s 20 largest economies, as well as the European Union, the African Union, and representatives of major international financial institutions.
