Poverty, Unemployment Are Root Causes of Insecurity in Katsina – Gov Radda

Katsina State Governor, Dr. Dikko Umar Radda, has declared that poverty and unemployment remain the primary drivers of insecurity in the state, stressing that any lasting solution must tackle these root causes head-on.

Speaking on Monday at the Katsina State Economy and Investment Summit, Governor Radda reiterated that his administration’s dual strategy for restoring peace hinges on massive job creation and economic empowerment.

“For you to address insecurity, you have to fight the root causes of it. What are the root causes of insecurity? The majority of it is poverty and unemployment,” the governor stated emphatically.

He explained that the state’s security framework now goes beyond kinetic operations to include aggressive investments in agriculture, skills acquisition, entrepreneurship programmes, and public-private partnerships designed to put thousands of youths to productive work.

“Once our young people have legitimate means of livelihood, the appeal of crime and banditry will drastically reduce,” Radda said, adding that several ongoing empowerment schemes are already yielding results in communities previously affected by banditry.

The governor used the summit to unveil new investment-friendly policies and incentives aimed at attracting both local and foreign investors, assuring them that improved security, driven by economic prosperity, will guarantee the safety of their investments.

Katsina, one of the northwest states worst hit by banditry and cattle rustling in recent years, has recorded a significant decline in attacks since the administration intensified its combination of security operations and socio-economic interventions.
