The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, has called on Nigerians to unite across religious and ethnic lines to defeat terrorism, insisting the menace does not discriminate between Muslims and Christians, while cautioning against foreign intervention in the country’s security affairs.
Speaking at his Oke Aremo palace during a courtesy visit by the President of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), Bishop Francis Wale Oke, the monarch decried over a decade of insurgency that has claimed countless lives, destroyed property worth trillions, displaced families, and fueled rampant kidnappings.
“Terrorists do not distinguish between Muslims and Christians; they see everyone as prey,” Oba Ladoja said, tracing the crisis to 2014 under former President Goodluck Jonathan and noting that successive administrations, Jonathan, Buhari, and now Tinubu have spent trillions combating insecurity.
He urged Bishop Oke to encourage Christians to remain peaceful and resilient amid grievances, adding: “These difficult times will pass. We appeal to you to help placate our Christian brethren.
”Praising the South-West’s tradition of religious harmony, the Olubadan called on other regions to foster mutual respect and tolerance. While acknowledging global concern, he firmly rejected external military involvement: “Any foreign support must come through collaboration and mutual respect, not interference."
Bishop Oke congratulated Oba Ladoja on his ascension as the 44th Olubadan and prayed for divine wisdom to lead with justice and compassion.
