Nigeria Police Arrest, Repatriate Escaped Turkish Fraudster Serving 14-Year Sentence

The Nigeria Police Force has successfully arrested and repatriated a 61-year-old Turkish fugitive, Acar Huseyin, who escaped to Nigeria after being sentenced to over 14 years in prison for fraud.

Huseyin was convicted by the Istanbul Anadolu High Criminal Court earlier in 2025 to 14 years, 8 months, and 10 days imprisonment.

He fled Turkey immediately after the judgment, travelling through the Middle East before entering Nigeria illegally to evade justice.

Following the issuance of an INTERPOL Red Notice by Ankara in July 2025, the INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) in Abuja launched a discreet intelligence-led operation that led to his arrest in the nation’s capital.

After completing all required extradition protocols in collaboration with Turkish authorities and international partners, the fugitive was repatriated to Istanbul where he will now serve his full prison sentence.

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, praised the INTERPOL NCB team for their swift and professional action, reiterating that Nigeria will never be a safe haven for fugitives or escaped convicts.

“Nigeria remains fully committed to international police cooperation and the global fight against transnational crime,” the IGP stated.

The successful operation underscores the effectiveness of Nigeria’s INTERPOL unit and the country’s resolve to honour Red Notice obligations.
