NCC Shuts Down Seven.ng Music Piracy Sites in Major Crackdown

In a major blow to online music piracy, the Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC) has successfully taken down seven .ng websites that were illegally distributing thousands of copyrighted songs and audiovisual works without authorization.

The domains, now offline, include:

val9ja.com.ng

tunesloaded.com.ng

voxnaija.com.ng

music.360media.com.ng

medianub.com.ng

naijalevels.com.ng

mp3juice.com.ng

The action came after a formal complaint from the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) and was executed in close collaboration with the Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NiRA) and the affected domain registrars.

According to the NCC’s Special Taskforce against Online Piracy (STOP), these platforms were openly flouting copyright laws by offering free, unlicensed downloads and streaming of music and videos owned by Nigerian and international artists and producers.

The sites were depriving creators, labels, and investors of legitimate revenue while undermining licensed digital services.

“This is part of our sustained enforcement drive under the Copyright Act 2022,” the NCC stated.

“We will continue to monitor and shut down any .ng domain involved in copyright theft, no matter the scale.”NCC Director-General, Dr. John Asein, described the suspensions as a clear message to digital pirates: “Nigeria will no longer be a safe haven for online theft of creative works.”

He commended NiRA and the registrars for their swift cooperation and urged the public to report pirate sites through the dedicated portal stop.copyright.gov.ng.

The crackdown follows the recent suspension of MovieBox.ng, another notorious platform streaming pirated movies, music, and live sports.

With these latest takedowns, the NCC says it is stepping up collaboration with local and global partners to protect Nigeria’s booming creative industry and ensure artists are fairly rewarded in the digital age.
