Lagos State Indefinitely Postpones Lekki-Ajah Road Rehabilitation

The Lagos State Government has suspended indefinitely the planned rehabilitation of the Lekki-Ajah corridor, barely 72 hours after announcing an eight-month construction schedule that was due to commence on November 15, 2025.

The postponement was confirmed on Tuesday by the Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, in an official statement released to the public.

“Following a comprehensive review of the planned rehabilitation works along the Lekki-Epe Expressway (Admiralty Circle Plaza to Eti-Osa-Lekki-Epe Expressway), the Lagos State Government has decided to postpone the exercise indefinitely,” the statement read.

Osiyemi added that a new commencement date will be announced after further consultations and logistical adjustments.

In the meantime, all sections of the corridor remain fully open to motorists with no diversions or restrictions in place.

The sudden reversal comes as a relief to thousands of daily commuters and residents of Lekki, Ikoyi, Victoria Island, and surrounding areas who had braced for significant traffic disruptions during the festive season and beyond.

The originally scheduled project was intended to address long-standing issues of potholes, flooding, and deteriorated road surfaces along one of Lagos’ most critical economic corridors.
