Lagos Police Confirm Murder of Ex-SDP Governorship Candidate, Bamidele Akingboye

Lagos State Police have officially ruled the death of former Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship candidate in Ondo State, Bamidele Akingboye, as murder, following autopsy results and ongoing investigations.

Akingboye, who died on Wednesday at his Victoria Garden City residence in Lagos, was initially reported to have passed under mysterious circumstances on September 3, with his body found in the backyard of his mansion.

His first son, Samuel Akingboye, based in Ondo State, promptly alerted authorities and demanded a thorough probe.

In an exclusive interview with Channels Television, Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olorundare Jimoh, disclosed that the autopsy conducted on September 11, combined with recent toxicology findings, confirmed foul play.

This led to the arrest and re-detention of seven out of 14 family members previously questioned by detectives from the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Panti, Yaba.

Earlier, nine close family members and aides were interrogated. Key suspicions include a ₦50 million transfer from the deceased's account, allegedly distributed among immediate family members.

CP Jimoh stated, “With the toxicology findings concluded, we await advice from the DPP so prosecution can begin against anyone found culpable of murder.”

The police are currently awaiting legal guidance from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to proceed with charges and further actions.

Family members interviewed at the crime scene earlier expressed trust in the police's commitment to a comprehensive investigation.

CP Jimoh reiterated his dedication to uncovering the full truth and ensuring justice for anyone involved.
