Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, on Tuesday represented President Bola Tinubu at the official launch of the Global Flood Disaster Management Project (GFDMP).
Delivering the President’s keynote address, Senator Kyari hailed the initiative as a historic milestone in global efforts to combat climate-induced flooding, which continues to ravage farmlands, displace families and destroy critical infrastructure across Nigeria.
“Nigeria welcomes this partnership and reaffirms its resolve to build lasting resilience through smarter early-warning systems, flood-resistant infrastructure, stronger coordination and community-driven solutions,” Kyari said.
He highlighted the project’s four strategic pillars:
Advanced Early Warning Systems
Flood-Resilient Infrastructure
Capacity Building and Knowledge Transfer
Community Engagement and Local Participation
The Minister assured development partners of Nigeria’s full commitment and active participation, stressing that the GFDMP aligns perfectly with President Tinubu’s agenda for climate adaptation and food security.
The well-attended ceremony brought together policymakers, disaster-management experts, international donors and diplomats, signalling unified global action against the growing threat of floods.
