The Kebbi State House of Assembly has suspended the Chairman of Fakai Local Government Area, Muhammad Mahuta, for six months with immediate effect following damning findings of gross misconduct, corruption, and negligence of duty.
The suspension was announced Wednesday after the House adopted the report of its Special Committee chaired by Hon. Salihu Dangoje.
Key findings against the suspended chairman include:
Confessing to attempting to sell five government-owned electricity transformers for N2.5 million each to one Alhaji Kabiru Dauda, with evidence of fund transfers into private accounts
Illegally allocating government farmlands without due process
Paying out the full contract sum for the rehabilitation of Mahuta Dam despite no formal contract being awarded to any company; the supposed contractor, ZBCC, confirmed its equipment was only hired for supervision
Hon. Dangoje told the House that Mahuta initially claimed the transformers were removed for servicing with KEDCO’s permission, but later admitted under questioning to the planned illegal sale.
The committee recommended and the House approved:
* Immediate six-month suspension of Muhammad Mahuta
* Revocation of all illegally allocated farmlands
* Immediate commencement of proper rehabilitation work on Mahuta Dam
* Commendation for the NSCDC Divisional Officer in Fakai for professionalism in recovering the transformers
The suspension motion was moved by Hon. Muhammad Buhari (APC-Aliero) and seconded by Hon. Nura Kangiwa (APC-Arewa).Speaker Muhammad Usman Ankale announced that the suspension takes immediate effect, directing the Vice Chairman to take over the administration of Fakai Local Government Area.
