Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters are mobilizing in large numbers along the Lake Chad region, advancing from Tumbumma toward Kukawa Local Government Area in Borno State, according to security reports.
Intelligence platform Zagazola Makama reports the militants are moving on at least two fronts, signaling a potential major confrontation with a rival Boko Haram faction active in the area.
The buildup follows recent setbacks for ISWAP, which suffered losses in ambushes carried out by the Boko Haram group loyal to leaders Abou Musab Al-Barnawi and Bakoura Doro, also known as Abou Ummaymah.
Security forces and local authorities are closely monitoring the situation amid fears of renewed violence in the restive region.
