INEC Chairman Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan, SAN, has called for a massive voter turnout in Saturday’s Anambra governorship election, warning that apathy poses the greatest threat to the state’s democracy.
Speaking at a press briefing on Thursday at INEC headquarters in Abuja, Amupitan pledged a credible, inclusive, and transparent poll on November 8, 2025.
He highlighted a steep decline in participation: 25.5% in 2013, 20.10% in 2017, and just 10.27% in 2021.
“Democracy thrives only when citizens actively choose their leaders,” he stressed, urging eligible voters to turn out “without fear or favour.”In a boost to preparedness, Amupitan announced that 98.80% of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) have been collected following an extended collection period that yielded “excellent results.”
