Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, has assured Nigerians that the 10th House will undertake a thorough and all-inclusive review of the Electoral Act 2022 to address identified gaps and better reflect the wishes of the people.
The Speaker gave the assurance on Tuesday during plenary while responding to concerns raised by Hon. Ifeanyi Uzokwe (PDP, Anambra) under a matter of personal explanation.
Abbas emphasised that the review would be comprehensive, transparent and carried out in consultation with all stakeholders, adding that the House remains committed to strengthening Nigeria’s electoral process.
In a related development, the House on the same day passed for second reading a Constitution alteration bill seeking to lower the minimum age for contesting election into the Senate and the office of Governor.
The bill, if eventually passed into law, will reduce the current age qualification from 35 years to 30 years for both positions.
